HOME PLACE COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR JOB DESCRIPTION


BACKGROUND

The City of Carmel adopted its new Comprehensive Plan in December 2022. A critical component of that Plan is to create Focus Area Plans throughout the city. Home Place is one of the first to be developed. This planning process will establish a deep understanding of Home Place’s needs and opportunities while reinforcing the community’s strong sense of place. WHO IS A COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR?

Are you passionate about fostering strong connections within vibrant communities? We are seeking a dynamic Community Ambassador to serve as the vital link between our organization and the local residents, businesses, and community groups of the Home Place neighborhood in Carmel, IN. As a Community Ambassador, you will play a crucial role in enhancing community engagement and organizing impactful events that strengthen neighborhood ties. In this role, you will be responsible for a range of activities designed to build relationships, promote project initiatives, and gather valuable feedback from the community.

On a daily basis the position will have, but not be limited to, the following responsibilities: 

  • Meet weekly with a supervisor

  • Participate in community organizing trainings

  • Host open office hours

  • Conduct canvassing

  • Organize and implement small engagement and community-building events

    • Meet & greets

    • Coffee & conversations

    • Info booths at events in the area

    • Project pop-up engagement

    • Project public event

  • Hang posters and flyers in storefront windows, on community bulletin boards, etc.

  • Document through photos and videos your work, the people, places and goings-on in the community

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS 

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with area residents, business owners, workers, groups and clubs, religious, scholastic and recreation organizations, local government officials, etc. 

  • Communicate clearly and effectively to a broad range of constituencies.

  • Good listener. 

  • Able to diffuse negative situations and build consensus.

  • Digital programs and platforms where experience will be necessary and/or helpful: 

    • Google G-Suite

    • Microsoft Office programs

    • Mailchimp

    • Trello

    • Dropbox


FAVORABLE EXPERIENCE 

  • Live or work in the Home Place neighborhood

  • Past experience as a community organizer or experience in customer service and/or communications


COMPENSATION 

$15/hour. The position is part-time, 20 hours per week for 20 weeks. The start date is early October. The end date is mid-to-late March.
