A Phased Approach to Enhancing the Town Center

Mt. Healthy, Ohio, is at a pivotal moment, energized by a newly invigorated community development corporation, Third Century Mt. Healthy, and a recently adopted comprehensive plan.

Yard & Company was engaged to develop a strategic blueprint for the city’s Uptown district, focusing on the revitalization of key historic buildings and a large surface parking lot. The planning process prioritized robust engagement with neighborhood stakeholders and the public, aiming to create a master plan for public/private spaces, retail development, and enhancing the unique urban character of Uptown. This plan establishes a clear roadmap with a 1-2 year, 3-5 year, and 5-7 year strategy, with a strong emphasis on initiating immediate short-term improvements within the first 1-2 years through community activations and tactical urbanism interventions. The plan seeks to foster a thriving Uptown district that reflects the community’s vision and aspirations.

PROBLEM: What is the best way to revitalize Mt. Healthy’s Uptown district and ensure its sustainable growth? 

SOLUTION: Create a strategic development blueprint focusing on short-term community activations and long-term redevelopment of key properties.

ACTION: Implement street closures, tactical improvements, facade grants, and phased development over the next 7 years.
