47th Place
FROM DEMONSTRATION PROJECT TO IMPROVED SAFETY AND VITALITY
The Yard & Company team, including Bike Walk KC and Trekk Design Group, worked with the City of Westwood and the Mid-American Regional Council to engage stakeholders in reimagining the future of 47th Place. Today, the street serves dual functions: as a primary through street connecting two major corridors, while also housing a growing set of destinations and residences that promote cycling and pedestrian use. The 5-month project to develop a complete street plan involved project branding and a communications strategy, a stakeholder engagement plan, the development of concept scenarios, and a three-day demonstration of design tactics followed by a celebratory and experimental street festival. The City will use the momentum from the event, along with the resulting plans and renderings, to secure implementation funding.
