The Belmont Business District, a historic commercial area in Dayton, Ohio, was facing challenges due to safety concerns and a lack of walkability. To revitalize the district, the City of Dayton partnered with Yard & Company to engage with community members and business owners, gathering their insights and aspirations for the area. YARD developed the Activate Belmont plan and created a Storymap to detail the process and future vision. This initiative focused on enhancing pedestrian safety and creating a more inviting atmosphere through placemaking strategies, including traffic calming measures, improved crosswalks, and the addition of greenery and street trees. By prioritizing small-scale improvements with a big impact, Activate Belmont aims to foster a vibrant and thriving business district for the Belmont community.
