Nashville emerged from the 2010 flood of the Cumberland River with an opportunity to not only build a stronger downtown Nashville that is more resilient to future flood events, but to integrate a new convention center and hotel, create a world-class riverfront park and amphitheater, and connect it all through multi-modal streets. Development pressures in downtown Nashville have steadily grown with a number of previously disparate development plans and initiatives. The South of Broadway Strategic Master Plan connected these initiatives, uncovered new ones through public engagement and research, and provided a growth framework for what has traditionally been a disenfranchised downtown neighborhood.
