5-YEAR ACTIONABLE WORK PLAN TO IMPROVE PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE SAFETY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The “Connections” 5-Year Work Plan, developed by Yard & Company in collaboration with the Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network (SSJNN), aims to transform the Greater Little Italy and Federal Hill neighborhoods of Erie, Pennsylvania, into the city’s most mobile areas, focusing on enhancing connections to a vibrant commercial district and leveraging its proximity to downtown Erie.
This plan outlines a detailed implementation strategy, including Year 1 initiatives like a “Slow Lane” on 19th Street, a “LIFE Line” signage system, and a Business District Marketing position; Years 2-5 efforts focused on streetscape improvements, traffic calming, and grant programs; and longer-term projects such as a “Sass Pass” mobility lane and a public plaza.
Recognizing the area’s community life, including multiple churches, the plan strives to create safer, more walkable public spaces for residents, businesses, and visitors, supported by identified funding sources and budget estimates.
