Global District - Tulsa, OK
A VISION FOR REVITALIZATION AND CULTURAL PRESERVATION
The Global District, a hub of minority-owned businesses in Tulsa, OK, faces challenges due to its auto-centric layout and is in need of revitalization and economic growth while preserving its multicultural identity. Yard & Co. initiated a transformative CNU 30 legacy project, revitalizing a section of the Nam Hai Market parking lot into a dynamic festival plaza that showcased the Global District’s diverse makers, artists, food vendors, and entertainers. This initial activation laid the groundwork for a Strategic Investment Plan, focusing on four key areas: analysis and research of the current economic climate, improving connections within the district and to surrounding areas, creating retail strategies and public spaces, and developing long-term site development plans with an emphasis on underutilized areas. This plan prioritizes community engagement and aims to create a more pedestrian-friendly, vibrant, and economically thriving district while maintaining its unique cultural heritage. Implementation will occur over 36 months and includes negotiating ground leases, constructing public spaces, and initiating a master lease agreement for vacant spaces.
