Mount Washington, PA
FROM DEMONSTRATION PROJECT TO IMPROVED SAFETY AND VITALITY
Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington Community Development Corporation (MWCDC) used Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Neighborhood Investment Fund monies to engage the team led by Yard & Company to reimagine the intersection of Virginia Avenue, Wyoming Street and Southern Avenue. The approximately 6-month Enjoy the View process included: exploring initial concepts with an Advisory Committee, informed by analysis and input from Community Forums; implementing a 2-week demonstration project to test a preferred concept and identity; and preparing a conceptual design and estimate of probable costs for a more permanent solution based on the results of the preceding efforts. The project built momentum for implementation and helped the CDC and the City create a strategy for funding improvements.
